My go-to outfit for a night out is usually ‘jeans and a nice top’. It’s easy, it’s comfortable and will also take you seamlessly from day to night. So for this month’s edit I wanted to focus on finding those ‘nice tops’ we want but can never find!
I’ve always loved a star print. It’s a classic that never seems to date. I also really love the Prairie style neckline, so this top ticked all my boxes. I have styled it with my Grey Editor jeans which I love. In the summer months I wear my jeans a little shorter and buy a 30′ leg in Topshop, but in the winter, I wear 32′ leg and find that this is a good length for wearing with boots. You’ll need to play around with leg lengths, sometimes a single inch in either direction can make a huge difference.
I love the way the Editor jeans sit high on my waist and give the illusion of a longer leg. They also seems to give me the illusion of curves, but I have been told by those in the know, that this is not a great style if you have curves. Though I think it’s tricky to be too prescriptive when it comes to denim. I don’t think you can really tell until you try things on. I have paired with my black ‘knife’ boots from a few seasons ago, but there are some great black boots available at Topshop if you are looking.
A top that has just landed at Topshop (and is sure to sell out quickly!) is this Silk Animal Print top from the IDOL range. (£35) I am also in love with this Embroidered Cutwork Top (£35)
The second piece I chose this month were these
I tried them on for a bit of fun, and didn’t think for one minute that they would work. I really struggle when it comes to trousers, as I don’t really have a bum to speak of and wasn’t blessed with long legs, so trousers are always far too long and a little roomy on the back side. (This is the reason I live in jeans.)
I have to admit I also didn’t expect to love vinyl trousers, I thought they may be a little ‘out there’ for me. But when I put them on I absolutely loved them!
To bring balance to the textures, I have paired them with a soft and feminine ivory silk shirt (£59 – bought a couple of months ago but it’s still available) and added some colour with my red Gianvitto Rossi heels and Gucci bag.
I really love the fit of these trousers. I do need to wear a heel as they look better with a bit of ankle showing, but they are trousers I would wear on an evening out, so the length works for me. I also surprised myself with a slightly wider leg. I usually go for a more fitted or straight leg. Just goes to show, if you push yourself a little outside your comfort zone sometimes, you may like what you see!
Here are a few other pieces that I tried on and loved.
I have always been a huge fan of Topshop’s denim and shoes, but as the years have gone by I have started to feel that I should leave the clothes to the ‘youngsters’. However, this has really changed and I am always so spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting pieces. So thanks Topshop, for making those of us in the 40 plus bracket still feel included and relevant!
Love,
