I love a challenge! Someone asked me this week if I could find a pair of comfortable nude espadrilles with a bit of a heel. Espadrilles really are a great summer shoe for those who want a little height but don’t want to go whole hog with a pair of high heels. They smarten up summer dresses without trying too hard, and work both day and night. I have a pair of white espadrilles from H&M that I bought on a whim and wore straight away, before I realised that they were an inch too high. They are comfortable, but I would prefer them to be a little less stilt like.
Castaner are supposed to be the best espadrilles money can buy and I think at £75, if they are comfortable and go with everything, then they would be a good investment.
They also have these for £5 more…?
For those that prefer no heel, H&M have these for £19.99 but they are imitation suede.
Another inexpensive pair from Dorothy Perkins, just be aware that they are synthetic. I prefer espadrilles with ties at the ankle as opposed to a single buckle strap, but I am sure there will be two schools of thought on this, some might find the tie straps a little bit of a faff to do up.
Air and Grace has these beautiful nude espadrilles with leather uppers.
These from Office are great, but if I was looking to buy, I would get the real deal from Castaner for £17 more. And here’s a fact that I didn’t know, but stumbled upon while researching for this post. The Castaner factory makes espadrilles for 15 designer labels, including Christian Louboutin, so the quality is going to be the best you can find. If you’d like to read more about the history of Castaner, you can read this NY Times article.
