Spring is finally here and Summer is starting to feel like it’s just around the corner. I am definitely a summer person. I love being able to shed the layers and wear open toed shoes and there is such a freedom that comes with summer dressing, not to mention all the celebratory occasions that the sunshine brings. Whether it’s festivals, garden parties, weddings, christenings or just a relaxed lunch al fresco with friends while the children run riot, good weather also brings the perfect excuse to wear something feminine and feel pretty. After a winter spent in trousers, it always feels so liberating to switch to skirts and dresses in the warmer months.
We recently had a garden party in the country to celebrate a few birthdays with friends and were so lucky with the weather. I really wanted to wear a dress, but I knew that the weather could go either way, so I went on a little quest to Topshop Oxford Circus to find the perfect dress. There were so many beautiful dresses to choose from, but I wanted a dress with a slightly bohemian feel, that I could dress up as well as down to make sure it would get lots of wear. I tried on a few stunners (that I will link at the bottom of this post) that would be perfect for more formal occasions like weddings, christenings or the races. Topshop really does cater for all occasions and budgets and I felt completely spoilt for choice. If you have an occasion to shop for, I wholeheartedly recommend trying their Personal Shopping Experience. It’s a complimentary service that requires you to pre-book at one of the selected stores that offers the service. It’s a great way to try styles that are perhaps a little out of your comfort zone and it’s lovely to have that time dedicated to you, as well as someone who knows where everything is and can grab the sizes you need.
It didn’t take long to know that this was the perfect dress. The fit, the back detail, the frill, the mixed prints, the uneven hem. Everything about it felt perfect for the occasion and at £59 the price was right too. Particularly as I know I will wear it casually with trainers all summer. As it was a garden party, I took along my trainers to change into, which was just aswell as we ended up playing games with the children on the lawn after lunch.
The shoes I wore for the lunch are also Topshop, and felt perfect for the dress. Again, such a fantastic price considering they are leather.

The dress I am wearing is a size 6 and I would say it runs true to size. The lace up back means that you would need to wear either a backless bra, or a multiway bra that has a low back converter. Or if you are lucky enough to be able to free the nipple, even better! At my height (5’4) it was the perfect length to wear with both heels and trainers, which I must admit was another reason I fell in love so quickly. Usually, these sorts of dresses are too long for me.
I have had lots of requests recently for a post on occasion dresses, so if you are reading and have an event coming up that feels fit for a new frock, Topshop is a great place to start. Here are some of the dresses that I tried on and loved.
