Occasion Tops for the Festive Season

Crikey, it’s November. When did that happen? The diaries are filling up and the festive season is upon us, so I thought I would have a look at options for those evenings when you want to feel a little bit glam, but not overdressed. I’m thinking dinner parties, drinks in town, xmas drinks with the neighbours, school functions, carol services, theatre trips, a special lunch with girlfriends and maybe the odd date night.  My go-to outfit for an occasion like this would be jeans or black trousers and heels with a top that feels a bit ‘special’. Understated, but the sort of top that would make someone say, “ooh, I love your top, where’s that from?’ The kind of top that whispers ‘effortless chic’. Pair it with your favourite jeans and heels and you’ve made just the right amount of effort.

So here are my favourite high street finds…

&Otherstories – £40

This top is stunning and new in, so I suspect it might sell out quickly given it’s price tag. Its a top that needs trying on though, as sometimes off shoulder tops can be hard to wear with a strapless bra if the fabric doesn’t skim over that area. I would wear this with black trousers and black heels and accessorise with a gold clutch..

Black Silk Shirt – Mango – £49.99

You can’t beat a black silk shirt for understated chic. Opt for all black, or pair with blue denim and heels.

Disco Blouse – &otherstories – £65

There is something wonderfully 80’s about this top. In fact I am sure my mum had something very similar.  As it’s so colourful, I would keep the rest of my outfit black.

Topshop Metallic Ruffle Blouse – £36

The combination of ruffles and metallic fabric make this top perfect for an evening out. I would pair with black skinnies and heels.

Sequin Top from &Otherstories – £65

Sequins are perfect for this time of year if you want to make a statement. I would dress down with jeans.

Silk Tiger Shirt from Whistles – £170

I love this shirt so much. Price tag, not so much… But if your budget allows, it’s very special. I would pair with blue denim and heels and let the shirt do the talking…

Velvet Blouse – Mango – £25.99

I have seen this top in the flesh and it’s lovely. Velvet is such a great choice for an evening out. Again, understated but effortlessly chic. I would pair with black skinnies and metallic heels or boots.

Black Lace with Ruffle – ASOS – £30

I love this top, but would probably wear a black cami underneath, instead of just a bra.

Happy Shopping and thanks for reading.

  1. Hi Chloe, love your blog/insta/etc but you are so bad for my bank balance 🙂 So far you’ve tempted me into the DP velvet top and the & Other Stories disco top. My black coat hunt now begins… 😉
